Grierson DocLab

Grierson DocLab seeks young people aged 18-25 who are passionate about factual television, from nature documentaries to reality TV; short-form content to feature docs and everything in between. We are looking for applicants who have ideas about how they can contribute to the industry, and who can offer fresh perspectives that are not currently reflected on-screen or behind the scenes.
Successful applicants to Grierson DocLab will receive:
An intensive hybrid training programme (details of the areas covered can be found below), supported by industry professionals
A bursary-supported work placement at a production company, up to four weeks in length
Full registration for Sheffield DocFest, with all associated costs to attend covered
Mentoring from an industry professional
Matched with a Grierson DocLab Alumni buddy
Networking opportunities
A ticket to the Grierson Awards ceremony, held on Wednesday, 6 November 2024
Access to, and membership of the Grierson DocLab Alumni network
Bespoke, ongoing support to help career progression within the sector
RTS Bursary Schemes

The programmes aim to:
Increase the diversity and inclusivity of the workforce by recruiting people from diverse backgrounds.
All bursaries are awarded to talented students from lower-income backgrounds studying an undergraduate degree or HND Level 5 or 6.
The RTS considers candidates studying all subjects: including but not limited to TV Production and Journalism; Humanities and Social Sciences; and STEM related courses, provided that the student demonstrates an evident interest in pursuing a career in television, film or related media industries.
The RTS will provide you with:
£1,500 per academic year
Free access to all RTS events, screenings and lectures
A personal industry mentor
Free RTS Membership

A ScreenSkills bursary is a cash grant to remove the obstacles to getting into the screen industries or progressing your career once you’re in. You can apply for money to pay for most things that relate to work and continuing professional development, such as training fees, accommodation, care, disability access costs, equipment, software and travel. Read the bursary guidelines to understand exactly what's covered.
Bursaries are supported by the BFI, awarding National Lottery funds, by industry contributions to the Animation, Children’s TV, Film, High-end TV and Unscripted Skills Funds.
Lab / Co-Production Forum Travel Grant
You can use our Travel Grants to support participation in
Labs – attendance at an eligible creative development lab for producers, writers, or directors working on feature projects and looking to develop skills and networks internationally, .
Co-Production (‘co-pro’) Forums – attendance at an eligible market/co-production forum for producers with feature projects.
International Collaboration Grant - BFI
This is a £1 million grants programme looking to support new cultural collaborations between UK artists, arts professionals and organisations and their peers in nearly 50 countries around the world. The grants range from £25,000 and £75,000. The deadline for application is 30 April 2024.
